Albert D. Sterner, 79, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care, Sunday, February 7, 2016 at his residence. 

Born August 1, 1936 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Robert H. Sterner and Blanche R. (Bowman) Hunter.  He was the husband of Mary E. (Diehl) Sterner with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Albert was a 1953 graduate of Gettysburg High School.  He continued his education, receiving degrees from the University of Virginia and Gettysburg College.

Mr. Sterner was employed as an editor of Hanover Evening Sun for approximately 30 years.  He then was employed by Thompsons Newspaper Company of Harrisburg as a political journalist.  Later, Albert worked in Administration at the Auditor General’s Office.  Upon retirement, he began substitute teaching. 

He served as the secretary and treasurer for the Republican Club of Hanover for 35 years.

Albert especially loved playing tennis, traveling, flying his Cessna, substitute teaching and anything that involved his grandsons.

In addition to his wife Mary, Albert is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Strasbaugh and her husband Terry, four grandsons; Adam Jones, Ben Jones, Cody Strasbaugh, Derek Strasbaugh, two great-granddaughters; Bailey and Amaya.  He was preceded in death by his brothers; Roland Sterner, Jules Sterner and his sister, Joan Hemler.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
