Betty L. Hempfing

November 10, 1934 ~ September 12, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old


Betty L. Hempfing, 82, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, PA with her loving family by her side.

Born November 10, 1934 in Brodbecks, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ross and Daisy (Dubs) Ruhlman.  Betty was the loving wife of the late Jesse E. Hempfing with whom she shared 58 years of marriage until his passing on September 4, 2009.

Betty was a member of St. David's Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA.  She drove a school bus for the South Western Public School District for 43 years until her retirement.

Betty loved to bake and was known for her whoopie pies that were sold at local carnivals and eateries throughout the area. She was proud of the family she had raised and loved spending time with them especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by three children, Phyllis L. Smith of Mechanicsburg, PA, Patrick L. Hempfing of Oviedo, FL, and Perry L. Hempfing of Hanover, PA, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one sister, Rosella M. Kaltreider.  She was preceded in death by one son, Philip L. Hempfing who died February 15, 1998 and three sisters, Romaine V. Kuhns, Ruby A. Smith and Pauline Bankert.

A service to celebrate and remember Betty's life will be held 11 AM, Monday, September 18, 2017 at St. David's Lutheran Church, 1032 Musselman Road, Hanover, PA, with her Pastor the Rev. LaDonna Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. David's Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 9:30-11 AM, Monday, September 18, 2017 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Betty may be made to St. David's Lutheran Church, 1032 Musselman Road, Hanover, PA 17331, or the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Company, 3003 Baltimore Pike, Hanover, PA 17331.
