Brian Joseph Laughman, 38, of Boulder CO, and formerly of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Friday, February 23, 2018 of complications from Marfan Syndrome at the Boulder Community Hospital.
Born March 1, 1979 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of Anthony and Sue E. Laughman and brother of Kevin and Melissa. He was the loving husband of Ingrid (Ulbrich) Laughman for 5 years and 8 months. He is survived by all of them, and also many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Brian was a loving husband, brother, son, friend, and mentor to all that were blessed by his love and humor. Brian was passionate about life, his family, his friends, Notre Dame, the outdoors of Pennsylvania but not Colorado, Dungeons and Dragons, video games, golf, and bacon. Children and dogs instantly recognized him as a gentle giant and jungle gym who would always play. Brian expressed his creativity in drawing, woodworking, writing, and anniversary presents. His favorite vacations were fishing in Canada, playing at Myrtle Beach, and driving anywhere instead of flying. He will be remembered for lighting up a room with his smile and jolly nature, a love of meat, and finding a pun for any situation.
Brian was a 1997 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and a 2001 Magna Cum Laude graduate of University of Notre Dame. He earned his Ph.D. in physics at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2009. He continued his research at GATS in Boulder, CO. He “made good life choices” by not working too hard to enjoy his passions.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate and remember Brian’s life will be held at noon on Friday, March 2, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Rd., Hanover, PA, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Father Ryan Fischer will be the celebrant. Luncheon to follow at the Hanover Country Club, 200 Water St, Abbottstown, PA. Burial will be private and at request of the family at Christ United Church of Christ, 131 Christ Church Rd, Littlestown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Brian’s memory may be made to The Marfan Foundation at https://www.marfan.org/get-involved/give or the University of Notre Dame, 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556, Attn: Jamie Barry.
