Charles Milton Rohrbaugh, 92, of McSherrystown, PA, entered into God’s eternal care, Monday, October 17, 2016 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center, Hanover, PA.

Born in Hanover on March 2, 1924, he was the son of the late Elwood A., Sr. and Stella E. (Stauffer) Rohrbaugh.  Charles was the loving husband of Marlene A. (Martin) Rohrbaugh, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.

Charles attended grade school in Blooming Grove, PA from 1930-1937, junior high in Hanover, PA from 1937-1938, and graduated from Eichelberger High School in Hanover, PA in 1941.   

He worked as a mechanic for the York Bus Company before entering the United States Navy in 1943.  Charles served his country proudly as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class, with the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946.  During which time, he was stationed in the South Pacific, at Pearl Harbor, on the Aircraft Carrier USS Copahee 12 and the Aircraft Carrier USS Steam Bay 87.  He was awarded the Victory Ribbon and an American Area Ribbon.  Upon his return, Charles worked for the Farm Bureau/Agway Inc. as a Unit Manager from 1946 until his retirement in 1985 after forty years of service, having worked in Hanover, York, Punxsutawney, Ebensburg, Bellville, Lewistown, New Oxford, Biglerville and Gettysburg, PA.   

Charles was a member of St. Paul’s Dubs United Church of Christ, Hanover, PA, where he was a former Sunday School teacher, former Sunday School superintendent, past President of Trustees, past Joint Treasurer, and former Treasurer of the Old Cemetery.  He was instrumental in putting all of the Cemetery records on the computer and chaired the 150th Church History Anniversary Committee, typing all of the information for the church’s History Book. 

Charles volunteered for the PAL Lunch Program and was a member of the Gettysburg Moose, the Gettysburg American Legion, and a former member of the Gettysburg Lions Club.  He attended the Gettysburg Navy breakfast group and the Hanover Navy luncheon group monthly. 

Charles enjoyed working on the computer, wood-working and spending time with his friends and family. 

Charles is survived by his children, James L. Rohrbaugh, Steven A. Rohrbaugh and Kenneth C. Rohrbaugh; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood A. Rohrbaugh, Jr. and a sister, Helen E. (Rohrbaugh) Fake.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the History/Library Room at St. Paul’s Dubs United Church of Christ, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover, PA 17331.

Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate and remember Charles’ life will be held 11:00AM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at St. Paul’s Dubs United Church of Christ, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Larry M. Estepp officiating.  The Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the church.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Dubs Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
