Darrell L. Bitner, 61, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Saturday, February 10, 2018 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 11, 1956 in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Ira A. and Helen E. (Makey) Bitner. Darrell was the loving companion of Miriam I. King with whom he shared thirty-four wonderful years together.
Darrell was a 1974 graduate of Hanover High School and Delaware Valley College earning a degree in Ornamental Horticulture. He retired after many years as the Greenhouse Manager at Pressell’s Florist.
Darrell was an avid gardener, birdwatcher, and animal lover. He rescued and took in many cats over the years.
In addition to his loving companion, Miriam, Darrell is survived by his children, Joseph R. Bitner of New Oxford, PA, Amy M. Bitner of York, PA, Tyler K. Bitner of Little River, SC, Elizabeth K. Swanger and husband Nathan of Hanover, PA, and Adam K. Bitner of Lancaster, PA; grandchildren, Mianna, Elliot and Teagan; siblings, Ira A. Bitner, II of Abbottstown, PA and Melanie Bitner Washburn of East Berlin, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Christine E. Thompson.
Following Cremation, the family will receive friends and share memories from 6 – 8 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
