Elizabeth "Libby" F. Joachim

October 22, 1920 ~ July 1, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old


Elizabeth "Libby" F. Joachim, 96, of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Center.

Born October 22, 1920 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late J. Kieffer and Maude (Wolf) Funk.  Elizabeth was the loving wife of the late William F. Joachim. Jr. who died October 3, 2007.

Mrs. Joachim was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hanover, PA, where she belonged to the Lena Pfeffer Circle, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a life member of the American Association of University Women, Washington County Historical Society and the American Dietetics Society.

Elizabeth was a 1938 graduate of Hagerstown High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the class Valedictorian.  She was a 1942 graduate of the University of Maryland and was the class Salutatorian and President of the local chapter of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society   She did an internship with the University of Maryland Hospital, worked as a proof reader for the Automotive Society of Engineers in NYC before moving to Hanover and then working for a couple of years as a registered dietician for the Hanover General Hospital.

Mrs. Joachim was an avid bridge player and belonged to several different bridge clubs in the Hanover Area. She enjoyed travels abroad to England, Italy, and Mexico among others.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons, James A. Joachim and wife Sarah of Smithsburg, MD, William L. Joachim and wife Vickie of Camp Hill, PA; four grandchildren, James, Noah, Ethan, and Alex; and three great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Funk and one sister Louise A. Beachley.

Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate and remember Elizabeth’s life will be held 11:30 AM, Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with her pastor the Rev. Joshua Rhone officiating.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
