Ethel Virginia Brownwell

Ethel Virginia Brownwell, 99, of Hanover, PA, entered peacefully into God’s eternal care, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Providence Place Retirement Community of Dover.

Born December 29, 1918 in Hanover, PA, she was the loving daughter of the late Howard and Gertrude M. (Stambaugh) Markle.  She was the loving wife of the late Bernard E. Brownwell who died July 28, 1989 and with whom she shared forty-three years of marriage.     

Mrs. Brownwell was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, needlework, cooking and being with her family.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Abbottstown, PA. 

Ethel is survived by three children, Pamela Sipe and husband Rodney of Strinestown, PA, Peggy Morehead of Dover, PA and Judith Thomas and husband William of Hanover, PA; six grandchildren, Lindy Lamparter, Melinda Gerkin, Heather Freed, April Freed, Kelly Finley, and Megan Sager; four great-grandchildren, Lilah, Joseph, Jack, and Eryka; and a sister, Loretta Buchman of New Oxford, PA.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Ethel will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.  Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Abbottstown, PA.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the funeral home.
