Gertrude Margurite Plattner, 92, of Gettysburg, PA, entered peacefully into God’s eternal care, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at her daughter’s home with her loving family by her side. 

Born April 29, 1924 in Souix Center, IA, she was the daughter of the late John and Willimina (Scholten) Kroon.  She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Anthony Plattner.  

Getrude served her country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII.  She served as a secretary at the Naval Academy for twenty-five years until her retirement. 

Getrude was a member of Gettysburg United Methodist Church.

Getrude is survived by her children, Mary Jo Sylvester of Gettysburg, PA and Francis B. Plattner of Calabash, NC; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie L. Eda Kroon of Souix Center, IA; and two brothers, Henry J. Kroon of Neosho, MO and Stanton Kroon of Burnsville, MN.  She was preceded in death by two sons, John J. Plattner and Henry A. Plattner; a sister, Norma Loe and three brothers, Richard Kroon, Lambertus Kroon, William A. Kroon and Bernard Kroon. 

A memorial service to celebrate and remember Gertrude will be held at the home of her daughter, 34 Jackson Road, Gettysburg, PA on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 11:30 AM.    

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gertrude’s memory to the Adams County S.P.C.A., 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
