Harry J.. Bemiller

June 1, 1929 ~ May 22, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Harry John Bemiller, 86, of Hanover, Pa, entered into God's eternal care, Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Hanover Hospital, a few days shy of his 87th birthday.

 Harry was married for almost 60 years to the late Harriett Reichart Bemiller.

 He leaves behind his loving children, Christie Ann Bemiller Sneeringer and husband William of New Oxford, PA, and Douglas Alan Bemiller of CA.  He was preceded by his daughter Debra Ann Bemiller Hudek in 2004 and his sister Janet V. Caulkins.  Harry also leaves his four devoted grandchildren, Christopher Sneeringer of Lancaster, PA, Katie Sneeringer of Hershey, PA, Rebecca Bemiller and Sara Bemiller in CA, and his sister Elizabeth Bush.

 Born June 1, 1929 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Harry J. Bemiller and Erma E. Zartman Bemiller. 

 Harry was a 1947 graduate of Hanover High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, having proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict.  He served as a Corporal in the 4th Signal BN Corps, earning a bronze star during his service. 

 Harry retired from the former York International in 1988, where he was employed as a cost accountant for over 40 years.

 In his free time Harry enjoyed woodworking, making crafts, and playing cards.  He had a love of cooking and enjoyed making candy, cookies and his famous lemon sponge pie among many others for his numerous friends and family.  He also enjoyed restoring antique cars, nurturing his tomato plants and doing puzzles.  He was a big fan of the Brooklyn (now LA) Dodgers baseball team, even keeping track of them during his final days.

 A viewing will be held 2:30-4:00 pm on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with a funeral service officiated Rev. Marjorie E. Lauver at 4 pm. A private burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harry's name may be made to Hanover Area Council of Churches, Meals on Wheels (MOW), P.O. Box 1561, Hanover, PA. 17331.
