James P. Valenza

James P. Valenza, 89, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Hanover Hospital, Hanover, PA, surrounded by his loving family.  

Born October 14, 1927 in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Sarafina (Unch) Valenza.  James was the loving husband of the late Gloria A. (Smith) Valenza who died April 25, 2008.  

James was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country proudly during World War II era from 1946 to 1947.

James was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover, PA.  He was a member of the Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, and the Pasadena Elks Lodge.

James retired from Westinghouse, having worked for over thirty years as a machinist-class A model maker.

James is survived by three sons, Vincent J. Valenza of Hanover, PA, Lawrence M. Valenza and wife, Candace of Pasadena, MD, and Philip E. Valenza and wife, Trudy of Seward, AK; six grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sara Catalino and Florence Morris.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, Philip E. Valenza, Jr., three brothers, Charles Valenza, Joseph Valenza, Jack Valenza, and three sisters, Teresa Scarborough, Frances Evans, and Josephine Galio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant.  Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover, PA.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.

Serving as casketbearers will be James Valenza, Nicholas Valenza, Joel Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Jake Thomas and Brian Newbill.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of James may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
