After a three year courageous battle with neurological complications, John Clair Menges, II, 72, of Hanover, PA, passed into peace on Monday, November 20, 2017.

Born October 23, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Dr. John Clair and Mary Anne (Trone) Menges.  John was the loving husband of Audry R. (Leese) Menges with whom he shared forty-six years of marriage.

John was a 1963 graduate of New Oxford High School, New Oxford, PA.  He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. 

John started his career in banking with National Central and Hamilton Banks. While in banking he served as a Zoning Board Member for Penn Township. He later would leave the banking industry to become the Penn Township Zoning Officer, which he did for over twenty-three years until his retirement in 2013.   He also served for the York County Commission.

John was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover, PA.  He was a former member of the Hanover Area Jaycees, and was a member of the Hanover Elks Lodge #763, The Hanover Eagles Aerie #1406, the Hanover Moose Lodge #227, the Hanover Home Association, the Codorus Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the York-Adams Game & Fish Association, Green Springs Rod & Gun Club, the Hanover Republican Club, the Gettysburg Hunting & Camping Club, The Penn State Alumni Association, and a life-long contributing member of the National Rifle Association.

John was a loyal and dedicated father to his four children and wife. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Audry, John is survived by his children, Angela (Menges) Meoli and her husband Anthony of Eagleville, PA, Allison (Menges) Orman and her husband Ted of Bel Air, MD, John C. Menges, III (JC) and his fiancée Krystie Noel of Spring Grove, PA, and Justin Menges and his companion Jessica Morningstar of Hanover, PA; six grandchildren, Abriana Meoli, Scott Orman, Gavin Orman, Jara Orman, Grayson Orman and Tanner Menges; a sister, Kathleen (Menges) Hermann of Castine, ME; his mother-in-law Treva Leese and many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate and remember John’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York Street, Hanover, PA, with his Pastor Rev. Peg Grzelkowski officiating.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to Trout Unlimited – Codorus Chapter #558, P.O. Box 194, Spring Grove, PA 17362, or also to Penn State College of Medicine & Hershey Medical Center University Development & Alumni Relations – Gift to Neuroscience Institute, 1249 Cocoa Ave, Suite 115, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852. Please note: Contributions to the Penn State College of Medicine should specifically indicate “Neuroscience Institute” in the memo line.  John had multiple brain injuries and was treated at Penn State Hershey.
