Mary Ann Smith

Mary Ann Smith, 71, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Hanover Hospital.

Born January 3, 1946, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Klunk) Becker.  She was the loving wife of Willis Benedict Smith, with whom she shared forty-nine years of marriage. 

Mary Ann was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, PA.  She was a member of NCCW and a former member of the Parish Council.

Mary Ann began volunteering at St. Vincent’s in the mid-1970’s, during the pastorship of Monsignor Maher.  She volunteered in many capacities until she was hired as Provost in 1998 by Father Quinn.  Mary Ann continued in that role under several pastors until her retirement in 2011.

Mary Ann loved Irish music, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family.

In addition to her loving husband, Willis, Mary Ann is survived by her children, Melissa A. Stalcup and her husband, Jamie of Hanover, PA, Gregory E. Smith and his wife, Julie of Cincinnati, OH, and Sarah E. Smith of Hanover, PA; four grandchildren, Jacob, Leah, Samuel and Rosemary; five brothers, Arthur J. Becker, Sr. of Hanover, PA, Thomas Becker of Tucson, AZ, Donald Becker of East Berlin, PA, James Becker of New Oxford, PA and Robert Becker of Seabrook, SC; and two sisters, Patricia Spiridonoff of Abbottstown, PA and Teresa Garrett of Hanover, PA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA, with Father Michael P. Reid, II as celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 12:00-2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the church.  

Serving as casketbearers will be Bruce J. Spiridonoff, Bruce W. Spiridonoff, James Becker, Randy Garrett and Arthur J. Becker, Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to the Visiting Nurse Association of Hanover & Spring Grove, 440 North Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
