Merle K. Sterner

Merle K. Sterner, 86, of Hanover, PA, passed away, Friday, March 2, 2018.

Born September 4, 1931 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Lanton and Cora (Lookenbill) Sterner.  Merle was the loving husband of Manoma D. (Baughman) Sterner with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.

Merle graduated Eichelberger High School, class of 1949, Hanover, PA.  Merle retired from Black & Decker after 30 years of service and worked at York International for 5 years following his retirement from Black & Decker.

Merle was a member of St Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA.  

Merle’s passion was little league baseball, where he coached many championship teams for the Hanover Recreation Department for over 30 years.

In addition to his loving wife, Manoma, Merle is survived by two daughters, Jody Cruz of Phoenix, AZ and Jill Sterner of New York City, four grandchildren, Elizabeth Cruz of Phoenix, AZ, Robert Cruz, Jr. of Miami, FLA, Alex Cruz, his wife Tracy and daughter Victoria of Austin, TX and Michael Cruz and his wife Karen and their daughter, Mya and son, Michael, Jr. of Centreville, VA. His sister, Jean Orendorff, also survives him.  His brother, Robert L. Sterner and his sister, Janet Straley, preceded him in death.

Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate and remember Merle’s life will be held 11 AM, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with his Pastor the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  The family will receive friends and share memories from 9 to 11 AM, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the funeral home.
