Welcome to the memorial page for

Warren G. Klunk

February 3, 1954 ~ July 19, 2017 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Warren Gerard “Burp” Klunk passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 63 years old.

He will be forever missed by the love of his life, best friend, and wife of 35 years, Jane (Kunkel); and the heart and joy of his life - his children, State Representative Kate Klunk and her husband Jared Laird; James Klunk; and Jenna Klunk and her husband Matthew Mueller all of Hanover.

Born February 3, 1954 in Gettysburg, Warren was the son of the late Fred G. and Florence E. (Rinehart) Klunk of New Oxford.

Burp is survived by his siblings, Sylvia Noel of McSherrystown, Rosalie Poist and husband Joe of Tuscaloosa, AL, Fred R. Klunk of Carlisle, James E. Klunk and wife Patricia of Queenstown, MD, Christine Rohrbaugh and husband Terry of York; a mother-in-law, Janice R. Kunkel, of Hanover; a brother-in-law, David R. Kunkel, of Hanover; a sister-in-law, Maryann Klunk, of Hanover; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who will all carry on his amazing life legacy.

Burp was greeted as he entered his eternal home by his parents; brother, Wayne W. Klunk; father-in-law, James P. Kunkel; brother-in-law, Donald A. Noel; two nephews; a niece; and many other extended family members and friends.

Burp graduated from Delone Catholic High School in 1972 and received a B.S. in Business and Finance from Mount Saint Mary’s College in 1976.  During high school and college, Burp could be found behind the drum set for the Blues Union Band where he could pick up a drum beat by ear and where he loved to play anything with a strong drum solo or a song by Cream.

In December of 2013, Burp retired after a 36-year career with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue where he last served as the Director of the Bureau of Individual Taxes. As a testament to his dedication to the Department of Revenue and the taxpayers of Pennsylvania, Burp received the Revenue Secretary’s Award for Excellence twice.

Burp was a man brought up in the Catholic faith and worshiped at Immaculate Conception Church in New Oxford.  Later in life, Burp became a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Hanover.  Additionally, Burp was a member of the Hanover Area Jaycees, the Hanover High School Athletic Booster Club, the Hanover Republican Club, and the McSherrystown Home Association.

Always a sports enthusiast, Burp coached his children’s baseball and softball teams in the Hanover Rec League and McSherrystown Pee Wee League. Burp rooted for the Baltimore Orioles and enjoyed watching two last Oriole wins in a row with his children by his side.  Burp found great joy in reeling in bluefish on the shores of Fenwick Island, DE or rainbow trout from Mountain Creek.  Burp also loved Deer Camp with the guys and hunting for “the big one” at his cabin in Michaux State Forest.

Most importantly, Burp was a rock solid family man.  Whether it was a Klunk family reunion, trips to Fenwick, or just supporting his children in their life pursuits, Burp always loved being surrounded by his family.

Burp’s family would like to thank his “angels” from the VNA Hospice of Hanover who so ably cared for him in his last months.  The family would also like to thank local doctors Carlos Vidal, Bret Soboda, Michael Watson, Shanthi Mohan and their staff as well as doctors Hyunseok Kang and Stephen Yang of Johns Hopkins University and their staff.  Finally, the family thanks his friends and family for their prayers and support over the past three years.

A service to celebrate and remember Burp’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 129 Charles Street, Hanover, PA with the Rev. Eric B. Stenman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Burp’s honor to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Hanover, 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403 or VNA Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
