History

Wayne V. Kenworthy began his work in the funeral business in the 1960’s.  Looking for a funeral home in the area in which he grew up, Wayne and his wife, Margaret M. (Sterner) Kenworthy, purchased the Bucher Funeral Home in Hanover, Pennsylvania in 1965.  Originally owned and operated as a Funeral Home by Frederick Bucher starting in 1933, the lovely Victorian era home and business  - circa 1897, was the ideal location to establish the W.V. Kenworthy Funeral Home.  The Kenworthy Family has been providing excellence in the funeral service in the Hanover area ever since.

In 1992, Wayne and Margaret’s youngest son, Eric V. Kenworthy, joined the firm as a licensed funeral director and oversaw the expansion of the business as the family built its second location in Bonneauville, Pennsylvania.  In 1996, Eric and his wife, Katie M. (Clarke) Kenworthy took over ownership of the funeral homes, and continue the family-owned tradition at Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc.  Eric & Katie, Wayne, and the Staff of the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc. continue to promote warm, personal and professionally run facilities serving area families  - Because our family cares about your family.

In November of 2008, the Kenworthy Family added a new "on-site" Cremation Facility at the Frederick Street location in Hanover, PA – So that your loved one never leaves our care.  Brooke Barry joined the staff as an intern in February of 2017, attended Mortuary School, and became a licensed Funeral Director in the fall of 2020.  The Kenworthy Family and their Professional Staff have served the Hanover & Gettysburg areas with honor and compassion for over 58 years - A total of 90 years combined as a family-owned and operated funeral home - the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
