Brenda Jo Bartels, 65, of Gettysburg, PA, was welcomed into God’s eternal care, Sunday, December 31, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 21, 1952 in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of Pina E. (Ball) Egelhoff of Gettysburg, PA and the late John E. Egelhoff.

Brenda was a member of the Intersection Church, Gettysburg, PA, where she was also a member of the Sunday Prayer Team as well as the Friday Night Prayer Team.  She belonged to Prayers in Stitches quilters group at Christ Lutheran Church in Gettysburg and the YWCA ENCORE Breast Cancer Support Group.

Brenda was a 1970 graduate of Western Hills High School, Cincinnati, OH and received her B.S. in education from Edgecliff College, Cincinnati, OH in 1979.  She taught Montessori kindergarten for over 35 years in the Cincinnati and Gettysburg Areas.

Brenda spent most days at her sewing machine creating prayer quilts or Civil War period clothing with her daughter and her mother. Her sewing skills, faith, and kindness touched many people.

In addition to her mother Pina, Brenda is survived by one daughter, Kara L. Bocek (Jon) of Frederick, MD, and three sisters, Pamela I. Cassell (Jim) of South Bloomingville, OH, Joan E. Alvarez (Gene) of Cincinnati, OH, and Candy Deister (Jerome) of Marion, IA. 

Missing her greatly are her 11 nieces and nephews and 4 great nephews and 3 great nieces. 

Following cremation, a Celebration of Life service will be at the Intersection Church Sunday January 14th at 2:00pm followed by visitation with family from 3-4:00pm.
