Charles William Rodgers

Charles W. Rodgers, 87, of Abbottstown, PA, entered into God’s eternal care, Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Messiah Village Nursing Center.

Born in Abbottstown on December 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Earl D. and Annie E. (Moul) Rodgers.  Charles was the loving husband of the late Patricia A. (Topper) Rodgers who died September 14, 2004.

Charles served his country proudly in the United States Navy for four years.

Charles was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Abbottstown, PA, the Hanover V.F.W. Post 2506 and the NRA.    He retired from Voith Hydro in York after 26 years of service as a supervisor.

Charles enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing, had a quick wit, loved music and truly enjoyed being in the mountains.

Charles is survived by his children, William E. Rodgers and wife Judy of Hedgesville, WV, Catharyn M. Jacoby and husband Samuel Jr. of Gardners, PA, Sheree A. Hied and husband Michael of Dover, PA and Suzanne E. Rodgers of Dover, PA; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne H. Rodgers of Biglerville, PA, and one sister, Nadine Nace of Lancaster, PA.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, E. Dale Rodgers, and Robert Rodgers, and two sisters, Violet Harr and Janet Geiman.

Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate and remember Charles’ life will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, August 10, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 Water Street, Abbottstown, PA with his Pastor the Rev. Shawn M. Berkebile officiating.  Burial will be in St. John’s Church Cemetery.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
