Cyril Joseph "Sugar" Hockensmith, Jr.

Cyril Joseph “Sugar” Hockensmith Jr., 76, of Hanover, PA, entered God's eternal care, Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born December 4, 1941, Hanover, PA, he was the son of the Cyril J., Sr. and Thelma A. (Fisher) Hockensmith.  Cyril was the loving husband of Joann M. (Hoover) Hockensmith with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Cyril graduated from Delone Catholic High School in 1961.  “Sugar” was an outstanding football player at Delone Catholic H.S.; he went on to play semi-pro football with the Columbia Raiders and the Hanover Packers.

Mr. Hockensmith was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, PA.

Cyril was a veteran and served his country proudly as a private in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He retired from Emeco Industries, Inc. in 2004, having worked as a welder for over thirty years. He was a member of the McSherrystown Moose, the McSherrystown Home Association and AMVETS Post 22.

Cyril is survived by two children, Scot Joseph Hockensmith and Jody Bamford-Hockensmith, both of Hanover, PA; five grandchildren, Terry, Brooke, Bailey, Blake and Jake to whom he will always be Boop-Boop; and three great-grandchildren; Segan, Bryce and Frankie.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Hockensmith.

The family will receive friends at their home, 705 McCosh Street, Hanover, PA, from 6:00-8:00 PM, Saturday, September 1, 2018.
