Donald Joseph “Doke” Eltz, 85, of McSherrystown, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Hanover Hospital surrounded by his loving family
Born September 13, 1932 in McSherrystown, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence and Josephine (Bowers) Eltz. Donald was the loving husband of the late Janet (Neiderer) Eltz with whom he shared 51 years of marriage until her passing on May 7, 2015.
Mr. Eltz Was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country proudly during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He worked as brick layer and mason, and he also worked at ESAB for 36 years until his retirement.
Doke was a member of Annunciation BVM, Catholic Church, McSherrystown, PA. He was a life member of the McSherrystown Fish & Game, life member and past Governor of the McSherrystown Moose, a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association, and a life member the Catholic War Vets Post, 1342, Bonneauville, PA.
Mr. Eltz was an avid gardener, he enjoyed being outdoors, and liked hunting and fishing.
Doke is survived by four children, Lisa M. Eltz of Littlestown, PA, Lori A. Eltz and husband Barry Wildasin of New Oxford, PA, Lynn E. Wingert of McSherrystown, PA, and Bart J. Eltz and wife Melanie of Sharpsburg, GA, five grandchildren, Nathan West, Gabriel Eltz, Kennedy Eltz, Noah Eltz, and Allison Wingert, and one sister, Mary Louise Eltz of Indiana, PA. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Regina Eltz and Romaine Eltz.
Following cremation, the family will receive friends and share memories at a visitation from 6-8 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. Burial will be in Annunciation, BVM Church Cemetery, McSherrystown, PA at the convenience of the family.
