Dr. Elmer G. Hamme, 98, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, January 3, 2019 at UPMC-Pinnacle, Hanover Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born November 8, 1920 in Paradise Township, PA, he was the son of the late Roy M. and Dorothy A. (Wilt) Hamme. Elmer was the loving husband of Edith May (Hake) Hamme with whom he shared sixty-six years of marriage.
Elmer a 1937 graduate of West York High School, a 1941 graduate of Penn State University, and a 1952 graduate of the Hahnemann School of Medicine. He was drafted following medical school, serving his country proudly as a Captain in the United States Army. Dr. Hamme opened a family practice in York, PA, and retired after thirty-five years of service.
Elmer was a member of Calvary Bible Church, in Hanover, PA. He was a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Society, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Christian Businessmen of York, PA.
Elmer and his wife Edith helped to establish the Open-Door Church in Shiloh, PA. He went on medical mission trips to Honduras, Ecuador and Mexico.
In addition to his loving wife, Edith, Elmer is survived by his children, Ethan E. Hamme of Plano, TX, Elizabeth A. Brown and Susan L. Reichart, both of Hanover, PA; and four grandchildren, Grant Reichart, Brett Reichart, Kendra Hamme and Spencer Hamme.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with his minister, Pastor Dave Hockman officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00PM, Monday, January 7, 2019 at the funeral home.
