Earl L. Schuman

February 24, 1927 ~ October 26, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old


Earl L. Schuman, 90, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center, Hanover, PA with his loving family by his side. 

Born February 24, 1927 in Spring Grove, PA, he was the son of the late Clayton G. and Mary (Miller) Schuman.  He was the loving husband of Theresa G. (Groft) Schuman and with whom he shared over seventy years of marriage.

Earl was in the Merchant Marines for two years before being drafted and serving his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Schuman was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, PA.  He was a member of the Hanover BPOE #763, the Hanover VFW #2506 and the American Legion Post #14 of Hanover, PA.

Earl retired from P.H. Glatfelter as the Assistant Superintendent and a member of the Quarter Century Club.

In addition to his loving wife, Theresa, Earl is survived by his children, Robert E. Schuman of McSherrystown, PA, Gary M. Schuman of Hanover, PA, Debra J. Keener of East Berlin, PA, Andra T. Slaybaugh of New Oxford, PA and Kyle D. Schuman of San Diego, CA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard G. Schuman of Hanover, PA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA, with Father Michael P. Reid, II as celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail providing Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Earl’s name to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
