Francis Cornbower Obituary

Francis E. Cornbower, 84, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Hanover Hospital.

Born May 15, 1933 in Spring Grove, PA, he was the son of the late Amos & Erma (Rohrbaugh) Cornbower.  Francis was the loving husband of Ina J. (Brown) Cornbower with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

Frank attended First United Methodist Church, Hanover, PA, he was a Free & Accepted Mason, and a member of Patmos Lodge No. 348 Hanover, PA, Harrisburg Consistory of Scottish Rite Masonry, Hanover Chapter No. 310 of Royal & Select Master Masons, Penn Council No.67 Illustrious Companion, and Sir Knight of Bethel Commandery No. 98 Knights Templars of PA.

Mr. Cornbower was a member of the V.F. W., East Berlin, PA, Hanover Elks Lodge, Hanover republican Club, McSherrystown Moose Lodge, McSherrystown Home Association, and the New Oxford Social Club.  He enjoyed snowmobiling, Square dancing, and hunting in his free time.

Mr. Cornbower was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country proudly during the Korean War.  He retired from L& H Trucking with over 25 years of service as a mechanic.  When he first came back from the war, he worked at P.H. Gladfelter paper Company for 6 years before becoming a mechanic at the former L& M Pontiac.

In addition to his loving wife, Ina, Frank is survived by one step son, Fred K. Brown and wife MaryJo of New Oxford, PA, two step granddaughters, Amber Brown, and Autumn Stambaugh and husband Scott, and one step great granddaughter, Makenna Stambaugh, three brothers, Laverne Cornbower and wife Theda of MA, Mark Cornbower and wife Nancy of Hanover, PA, Dean Cornbower and wife Judy of Thomasville, PA, and two sisters, Lyrian Schuchart and husband Robert of Hanover, PA and Nova Gingrich of Spring Grove, PA.  He was preceded in death by on sister, Loretta Brillhart.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Frank will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with the Rev. Gregory Rapp officiating.  Burial will be held in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with the Hanover allied Veterans Honor Guard providing Honors.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 - 8 PM, Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 8 PM 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank’s memory may be made to First United Methodist Church 200 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
