Geraldine "Geri" M. Alleman

Geraldine “Geri” Madilla (Myers) Alleman, 89, passed away peacefully at Country Meadows of York, on Thursday, August 3, 2017.  She was born June 6, 1928 in Hamilton Township, Adams County, PA, the daughter of the late Luther S. and Nellie L. (Slaybaugh) Myers.  She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Martin “Jake” Luther Alleman who died May 5, 1991.  They were married December 26, 1947.

She graduated from New Oxford High School, Class of 1946, and attended York Hospital School of Nursing.

Geraldine was employed by Strine’s Shoe Store, Hanover Wage Tax Office, New Oxford High School (Secretary to the Superintendent 1961-1972), and People’s State Bank of East Berlin (1973-1993).

A lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Abbottstown, she served on Church Council, Pastoral Search Committee, Volunteer Circle, and Endowment Committee, played in the Handbell Choir, and taught the 3 year-old Nursery Class for many years.

Geraldine was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed walking, reading and volunteering at the East Berlin Historical Preservation Society where she served as Treasurer for many years.  She was “Majority Inspector” of Elections for Paradise Township.

She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Abbottstown Area Card Club for over 40 years.  She traveled to France for 3 weeks in 1995, driving with French friend, Jacqueline, throughout the countryside, especially enjoying a visit to Monet’s Home and Gardens at Giverny.

Geraldine is survived by a daughter, Barbara Eisenhart and her husband, S. Forry Eisenhart, Jr. of Hanover; a son, Steve L. Alleman of East Berlin; a grandson, Forry Eisenhart III and his wife Gabriela of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Eisenhart May and her husband Jon of Santa Barbara, CA; a grandson, Jonathan Eisenhart of Santa Barbara, CA and 3 great-grandsons, Silas Forry Eisenhart IV, Oscar Antonio Eisenhart and Patrick Conrad May, one great-granddaughter, Lucy Elizabeth May.  She is also survived by three sisters: Doris Jean Stock and her husband James K. Stock of New Oxford, A. Louise Wentz and her husband E. Burnell Wentz of Hanover, and Joyce Durborow of New Oxford.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Nyle Myers, in 2007.

A service to celebrate the life of Geraldine will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 Water Street, Abbottstown, PA, with Pastor Shawn M.  Berkebile officiating.  A time to share memories with the family will be held from 9:00 – 10:00AM, Saturday at the church.

Serving as casketbearers will be S. Forry Eisenhart, Jr., Forry Eisenhart III, Jon May, Jonathan Eisenhart, Alan J. Stock and Robert M. Durborow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Geraldine’s memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 Water Street, Abbottstown, PA 17301 or to the East Berlin Historical Preservation Society, Post Office Box 73, 332 W. King Street, East Berlin, PA 17316.
