Jack Francis Hertz, 78, of Gettysburg, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, June 21, 2018, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born December 28, 1939, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Earl J. and Martha G. (Reily) Hertz. He was the loving husband of Kay A. (Miller) Hertz with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.
Jack attended Delone Catholic High School.
Jack was a taxidermist for Battlefield Taxidermy and a wildlife artist for fifty-two years. He retired from National Can Corporation with over thirty years of service; prior to that he worked as a paid firefighter for the Hanover Fire Company.
Jack was a member of the McSherrystown Fish & Game Association, the McSherrystown Home Association, the Hanover Homing Club, the Littlestown Rod & Gun Club, the North Carroll Rod and Gun Club, the Adams County Fish & Game Association, the Buchanan Valley Rod and Gun Club, the Eagles, the NRA and the NWTF.
Jack was a State Champion in Duck and Waterfowl Calling; he won various State and Regional Awards in Taxidermy Competitions. He enjoyed shooting trap, working with homing pigeons, fishing hunting, riding motorcycles and flying model airplanes.
In addition to his loving wife Kay, Jack is survived by his children, Diane Dean, Sally Hertz and Ashley Hertz, all of Gettysburg, PA; step-children, Gail Cassell of Bradford, MA, Donnie Horn, Jr. of Lancaster, PA, Missy Hornberger, York, PA; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Hertz of Hanover, PA; and a sister, Mary Ann Lake of McSherrystown, PA. He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Hertz and siblings, Earl Hertz, Jr., Vernon Hertz and Dolores Kuhn.
A Memorial Service to celebrate and remember Jack’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 66 East Hanover Street, (Bonneauville) Gettysburg, PA, with Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
