James Henry Brady

James H. “Sparky” Brady, 83, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Sunday, July 29, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side. 

Born July 29, 1935 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late J. Harold and J. Estella (Black) Brady.  James was the loving husband of Vivian B. (Blouse) Brady with whom he shared over sixty years of marriage.

James was a 1954 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, Hanover, PA.  He was a veteran and served his country proudly in the U.S. Army for over six years.

James had a long career in the field of electricity.  He worked for Frank Klunk’s electrical business, putting the first traffic light in McSherrystown.  After his discharge from the service he worked for Met-Ed until he retired in 1997, having worked as a lineman for over thirty-two years.  After retirement, he worked for Conewago Enterprises for fifteen years until 2012.  He had his own electrical business on the side from 1997 to 2016.  He was the chief electrician for the Hanover Area Council of Churches when they moved into their new building and shelter.

Mr. Brady was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hanover, PA, where he was involved in the Holy Name Society.  He was a member of the Hanover Historical Society, the McSherrystown Fish & Game Association, the McSherrystown Home Association, the Must Bag Lodge, the Hanover Area Cyclers, the Met-Ed Retiree Club, IBEW #1261, the NRA, and AMVETS.  He was a life member of the Pennville Fire Company and the York County Firefighters.

James enjoyed hunting, antiquing, history, talking and spending time with his friends and family.

In addition to his loving wife, Vivian, James is survived by his children, Michael J. Brady and his wife Cindy of East Berlin, PA, Patricia A. Brady of Fort Loudon, PA, and his “adopted” daughter, Sandy Wilson of Fort Loudon, PA; four grand-dogs, Sophie, Raven, Max and Nick.  He was preceded in death by a twin infant brother, John Harold Brady.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, August 3, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Father Matthew Morelli as Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Catholic Church Cemetery.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, and from 10:00-11:00 AM, Friday, August 3, 2018 at the church. 

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Capital Campaign, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 North Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331.
