John A. Hoffacker, 89, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s Eternal Care Sunday December 31, 2017 at the Brethren Home, New Oxford, PA. 

Born January 25, 1928 in Hanover, PA he was the son of the late Ralph J.S. and Margaret (Sourber) Hoffacker.  He was the loving husband of M. Joyce Hoffacker with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

John was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA.  He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2506, AMVETS Post #22, Hanover, PA, Hanover Home Association, Hanover Fire Company No. 1 Station 46 and the Elks Club.

John worked at the Hanover Hardware and P.H. Glatfelter Company.  He retired from Glatfelter after 22 years of service.  John served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946.  He was proud veteran and was stationed in Japan.  John also served as a director of the Abbottstown State Bank.

John supported Scouting, working with Troop 101 at St. Mark’s church, seeing both sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.  In retirement, John liked to travel and volunteered with the Hanover Red Cross for over 15 years.  John was a devoted father and grandfather and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and attending events for his grandchildren.   John could always be depended upon to help anyone at a moment’s notice.

John is survived by his children, John A. Hoffacker, Jr. of Hanover, PA and Brett A. Hoffacker of Hanover, PA; and five grandchildren, Andrew T. Hoffacker, Kiersen A. Hoffacker, Maxwell D. Hoffacker, Julia A. Hoffacker, Adam J. Hoffacker and a sister Margaret B. Bange.  He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Following cremation, a celebration of John’s life will be held at11 Am, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Fredrick Street, Hanover, PA with Rev. Linda S. Titzell officiating.  A visitation will be held from 10 -11 AM, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the funeral home.   His cremains will be inurned in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA. at the convenience of the family.
