Lester C. “Les” Martin, 72, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, June 21, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side.
Born July 11, 1945 in San Diego, CA, he was the son of the late William M. Jr. and Helen L. (Voliva) Martin. He was the loving husband of Patricia L. (Cookson) Martin (daughter of the late Wayne and Mary Lou Cookson) with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.
Les was a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy (Class of 1964) and received a bachelor’s degree in History from the Virginia Military Institute (Class of 1968). He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a 1st Lieutenant, First Air Cavalry Infantry in the United States Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge.
Mr. Martin was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hanover, PA; Ducks Unlimited; the Professional Picture Framers Association (Master Certified); and a life member of the Hanover V.F.W. post 2506.
Les and his wife are the owners of Martin’s Picture Framing and Gallery in Hanover. He was a Master Certified Picture Framer – a distinguished honor bestowed upon 70 people throughout the world.
Mr. Martin loved spending time with his family, his grandchildren, working at his gallery, playing golf and was an avid reader.
In addition to his loving wife, Pat, Les is survived by his sons, T.J. Martin, Adam W. Martin and his wife Courtney and their children, Payton and Jaxon. He was preceded in death by a son, Lance C. Martin, and one brother, William M. Martin, III.
A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held form 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. A funeral service to celebrate and remember Les will be held at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery at 3:30 PM.
