Robert Edward Picardi, 88, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Monday, November 5, 2018 at UPMC-Pinnacle Hanover, with his loving family by his side.
Born August 27, 1930 in Chelsea, MA, he was the son of the late Henry D. and Mary (Beatrice) Picardi. Robert was the loving husband of Lois A. (McLaughlin) Picardi with whom he shared sixty-three years of marriage.
Robert was a veteran, having served his country proudly in the United States Army.
Robert graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in communications. He was an editor and writer for the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. until his retirement in 1992.
Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover, PA. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the trumpet and had his own band. Robert enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, listening to big band music, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, Lois, Robert is survived by his children, Brian E. Picardi (wife Jean), Kenneth E. Picardi (wife Patricia), Leanne C. Ugarte (husband Dr. Marcos Ugarte), and Joanne M. Mulera (husband Raymond); and fourteen grandchildren, Braven, Jared and Ranyar Picardi, Devin Picardi (wife Mia), Alec Picardi, Roberto, Isabela, Antonio, Armando, Mateo and Eduardo Ugarte, and Haley, John Mac and Mary-Kate Mulera. He was preceded in death by all five of his siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate and remember Robert’s life will be held 10:00AM, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Monsignor James M. Lyons, Father Charles L. Persing, and Deacon Timothy J. Shultis as concelebrants. Burial will be in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Cemetery, Abbottstown, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held 9:00-10:00AM, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
