Shirley M. Jenkins

Shirley M. “Jess” Jenkins, 81, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover Hospital.

Born July 28, 1937 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Winnola C. (Garrett) Jenkins.

Jess was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA.  She was a 1955 graduate of Eichelberger High School.

Jess worked for the Hanover Shoe Company for 32 years in the Sample Department, then was the Bakery outlet manager for Stroehman’s for ten years and retired from Schmidt’s Bakery Outlet as the manager after 4 years of service

Jess loved sports and played on many basketball and softball teams in the area when she was younger.  She was an avid bowler for over 30 years.  She was a semi pro bowler for two years in the Philadelphia and Delaware areas and bowled in the W.I.B.C. National Tourneys and qualified for the Queens Tourney in 1966 in New Orleans.

Jess is survived by family and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Jess’ life will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc. 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Kathryn A. Schroeder officiating.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the funeral home.
