Thomas Walter Helwig

Thomas Walter Helwig, 70, of Spring Grove, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.

Born May 15, 1948, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald W. and Marcella C. (Luckenbaugh) Helwig.  Thomas was the loving husband of Cecelia L. (Knox) Helwig with whom he shared forty-four wonderful years together.

Thomas was self-employed as the owner and operator of The Trading Post for over thirty years.  He was a member of the McSherrystown Home Association.

Thomas enjoyed buying and selling, swimming, and filming sporting events for his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Cecelia, Thomas is survived by his children, Toni A. Helwig Smith and her husband William of Fairfield, PA, Thomas W. Helwig, Jr. and his wife Erika of Spring Grove, PA, and Matthew G. Helwig and his wife Casie of York, PA; five grandchildren; one great-grandson, two sisters, Geraldine "Bunny" Ernst of Hanover, PA, Catherine Clark and husband James of McSherrystown, PA, and two brothers, Donald Helwig and wife Diane and Martin Helwig and wife Lynne all of Hanover, PA.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Helwig of New Jersey.

Following Cremation, a Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Pastor Randy Nims officiating.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 2:00-3:00PM, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the funeral home.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
