Allen Defibaugh Obituary

Allen G. Defibaugh, 79, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s Eternal Care, Monday, January 8, 2024, at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, PA, with his loving family by his side.

Born March 8, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Lee Roy and E. Irene (Smith) Defibaugh.  Allen was the loving husband of E. Jeanne (Thomas) Defibaugh with whom he shared fifty-eight years of marriage, having married in 1965.

At one time, Allen’s family owned The Defibaugh Tavern, est. 1787 on Route 30, 3½ miles east of Bedford, PA. 

Allen graduated from Millville High School in New Jersey, earned his B.A. from Shippensburg, and received his master’s in education from Western Maryland College.  He retired in 1994, after thirty years in the South Western School District and also as the Principal at Emory H. Markle Intermediate School.  He was a member of the PA Association of School Retirees, the York County Association of School Retirees, and AARP.

Allen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA. 

Allen loved Garfield the Cat and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Allen is survived by his loving wife Jeanne; a sister-in-law, Robin Murren; nieces, Heather Ulrich and Lindsay Kumiega; and very dear friends, Linda and Ron Schmidt.  He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Allen Defibaugh, 22 years, who died in 1988; and a sister, Sandra, who died when she was 22 years old.

Following cremation, services will be held at a later date.
