Barry B. Bankert

Barry Burnell Bankert, 76, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at WellSpan York Hospital, York, PA. 

 Born May 29, 1945, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Burnell and Anna Mae (Mowrer) Bankert.  Barry was the loving husband of Donna M. (Baublitz) Bankert with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.   

 Barry was a long-time member of Grace United Church of Christ, Hanover, PA.  He served as a church elder, deacon, trustee, consistory member, and volunteered in various other areas at the church.      

 Barry was a 1964 graduate of  Spring Grove High School.  He retired from BAE United Defense in 2012, having worked as an assembler for over 38 years.    

 Barry was a 49-year member of the Hanover Elks, a life-member of the Hanover Home Association and the Hanover Area Fire & Rescue Station #79, a member of the Firefighter Association of York County, and the PA Fire Police Association.

 Barry was an avid bowler in his earlier days and enjoyed bowling at the local establishments in travel leagues and participating in many tournaments in York County.  He was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys, always watching races and games. 

 In addition to his loving wife Donna, Barry is survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda and Larry Sager, Larry and Diane Baublitz, and Barbara Baublitz; nephews, Rev. Scott A. Sager (Patti) and Randy Baublitz (Debra), his niece, Sharon Bish (Troy); great-nephews and nieces, Nevan Sager, Levi Sager, Victoria Green, Megan Baker, and Adam Bish; great-great-nieces and nephew, Rhea Sager, River Sager, and Laine Baker; and an aunt, Betty Goodling of York, PA.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Mitchell and brother-in-law, Simpson Baublitz.

 A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00PM, Friday, September 10, 2021, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederic Street, Hanover, PA.  A graveside service to celebrate and remember Barry’s life will be held 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA with the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier and his nephew, the Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. 

 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barry’s memory to the American Heart Association, 4250 Crums Mill Road, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
