Carl Ober Pottorff, 94, passed away February 9, 2025, in York, Pennsylvania. He was born in Hanover, son of the late Milton and Carrie (Sell) Pottorff. Days after his 17th birthday, Carl enlisted in the United States Army and served as an infantryman in the Republic of Korea. He was injured during two separate periods of service 1947/1948 and 1951/1953 and received the Purple Heart Medal for critical wounds sustained on October 11, 1951, during hostile actions. Following his military service and several jobs in the community, Carl worked for the Borough of Hanover until his retirement in 1997.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife Janet Marie (Wine) Pottorff on July 11, 2000. Siblings preceding him in death include brothers Milton Pottorff, Jr., Raleigh Pottorff, Albert Pottorff, Monroe Pottorff, Paul Pottorff; sisters June R. Comer, Helen Witter; sister Anna Pottorff (3 years), brother Luther (1 month).
Carl is survived by his two sons, Brian K. Pottorff (Robin) and Kevin C. Pottorff (Sandra), 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Carl's brother Henry C. Pottorff survives him and celebrates his 100th birthday this month.
The Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover at 10:30 A.M. with Interment to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives may call on Monday evening, February 17, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday morning, February 18, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
