Carole Jean Nisbet, 84, of Hanover, PA (formally of Little River, SC); passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on March 28,1942 in Albany, NY, and was the daughter of the late Paul G. Roemer and Carolyn N. (Meserve) Roemer. From the age of 3, she was raised by her grandparents, Paul H. Roemer and Elizabeth S. Roemer.
She and her husband Doug began their married life together in 1959 in Jacksonville, FL, where both their daughters were born, before settling in the Schenectady, NY area (living in Rotterdam, Alplaus and Glenville) where they raised their family. In later years, she enjoyed living in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. She deeply valued the many friendships she made throughout her years.
Carole Jean’s greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother and homemaker. She created a home filled with love, family traditions and special holiday memories for her two daughters; giving them a most wonderful childhood. She delighted in welcoming each grandchild and great-grandchild into the family.
Carole Jean was both creative and social, combining her talents with being in clubs for knitting/crocheting and cross-stitch. She was a gifted seamstress and lovingly sewed for her daughters, from matching play clothes and Easter outfits to dresses for their high school formals. She was an excellent cook, an avid reader and a devoted fan of figure skating. Crossword puzzles and the game of Scrabble were favorite pastimes. She gave back to her community, and while living in Lewisburg, PA, she was a member of the Newcomers Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Evangelical Community Hospital and the Lewisburg Garden Club.
She and her husband shared a love of travel and adventures, on their motorcycle, in their RV and even on a rented houseboat, while also enjoying trips to the western U.S. National parks, Alaska and Hawaii.
Carole Jean worked for 26 years as a bookkeeper, first for Albany Public Market in Scotia, NY, and later for Weis Markets in Camp Hill, PA.
She and her husband spent many happy retirement years in Little River, SC, a place that became the final chapter of their beautiful life together. They loved taking in sunrises and relaxing on Cherry Grove Beach in North Myrtle Beach. Carole Jean enjoyed writing the monthly newsletter for their Country Lakes retirement community, as well as being on the Welcoming Committee and taking aquatic classes. Last year, Carole Jean returned to Pennsylvania to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas A. Nisbet, her brother, Paul G. Roemer, Jr., and her stepmother, Marjorie V. Roemer.
Carole Jean is survived by her daughters, Diane E. Falso and husband Steven of Hillsborough, NJ and Cheryl A. Cheetham and husband Robert of McSherrystown, PA; four grandchildren, Christopher Nisbet (Amy), Michael Falso (Meghan), Nicole Rokoszak (Nicholas) and Amanda Baker. Eight great-grandchildren, Shelby, Levi, Ethan, Jayde, Benjamin, Owen, Alexander and Jacob. Four siblings, Mark Roemer, Gail Fiato, Stan Elliott and Janice DeProspero.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, hospice staff and friends at Homewood Living Plum Creek retirement community, who provided kindness, comfort and support during her final days.
