Carolyn M. Thompson

Carolyn M. Thompson, 90, of Hanover, PA, left the loving arms of her family July 7, 2025, to be embraced by the loving arms of her savior Jesus Christ.

Born in Baltimore County, Maryland on July 12, 1934, she was one of 14 children born to George John Thompson and Laura Leona (nee Russell) Thompson. 

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Elmer at age 37, her sons William Joseph age 12, and adult son Eugene Michael.  Also preceded in death by her siblings: Robert,

Adalain, John, Leona, Charles, William, Richard, Raymond, Thomas, Ramona, and Dennis.  Charles Martin and Charles Leonard died in infancy.    

Carolyn is survived by her six children, one daughter-in-law, 13 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.

Surviving children are: Lillian M. Sanders and husband Charles of Hanover, Carole L. German and husband Llewellyn of Glen Rock, Elmer John Thompson Jr. and wife Dina of Essex, MD, Peggy Ann. Robbins of Glen Rock, Linda S. Potter of Spring Grove and Genevieve Steinbrenner of Fort Ashby, WV; and daughter-in-law Inessa Thompson of Hanover.

Carolyn was a personal shopper for Hecht’s, Hutzler and Hochschild Kohn also Bon Ton.  She won numerous awards for wardrobes she selected for Oprah Winfrey, all wives of the Baltimore Orioles and women executives of Johns Hopkins.

She was known for her beautiful gardens, lovely home and wonderful dinners at holiday celebrations.

Carolyn had grace, beauty and dignity.  She will be forever in our hearts.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Carolyn will be held 11AM, Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., with Father Michael Rothan officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  Visitations and times to share memories with the family will be held from 2-4PM, Sunday, July 13, 2025, and from 10-11AM, Monday, July 14, 2025, at the funeral home.
