Charles A. Stauffer, 83, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s Eternal Care Friday, May 17, 2024, at the UPMC Hanover Hospital.
Born February 7, 1941, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Alvin C. and Dorothy A. (Luckenbaugh) Stauffer. He was the loving husband of Gloria A. (Mowrer) Stauffer with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Charles was a 1959 graduate of Eichelberger High School and a 1963 graduate of Elizabethtown College with a B.S. in Business Administration. He retired from Snyder’s of Hanover in 2012 as a project manager.
Charles was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, where he served on the church council for 6 years, was council president for 3 and served as joint Council President of Mt. Carmel Parish. He was a member of the Hanover Area Jaycees for 13 years, served as chairman of the Board of Directors, was State Director 1970-1971 and named J.C.I. Senator No. 24967 for Life. He was a member of Patmos Lodge No. 348 F.&A.M. for 50 years, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Harrisburg, PA, Central Penn Scottish Rite Club, Zembo Temple, and York County Shrine. He was a member of the Penn Township Lions Club since 1978, served on the Board of Directors and was president from 1987-1988.
Charles served on the Penn Township Board of Commissioners from 1992-2007, was Vice President from 2000–2003 and a life member of Penn Township Volunteer Emergency Services. He created and chaired the Mullertown Water District which brought public water to 126 homes and 4 businesses in Penn Township.
While his children were growing up, he served on the South Western Band Booster Club and was chairman of the 1979 Band Showcase. He also served on the Park Hills Boys Club Board of Directors. Other memberships include the Hanover Area Historical Society, Hanover Republican Club, Hanover Home Association, and the McSherrystown Home Association.
In addition to his wife, Gloria, Charles is survived by his children, Cindy A. Heim and husband George of Mt. Airy, MD, Allen C. Stauffer and wife Michelle of Dillsburg, PA, his grandchildren, Zachary Nedzel and wife Nichole, Bryanna Butler, Brandon Stauffer, Skyler Stauffer, Jennifer Ring and husband Brad, Scott Heim and wife Ezgi, his great grandchildren, Aspen Butler, Atlas Butler, Ayla Nedzel, Brayden Ring, Jameson Ring, Julian Heim, and Hailey Heim, his brother, Gordon R. Stauffer, and his sister, Meta S. Palmer.
A service to celebrate and remember Charles will be held 11 AM, Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Faye Snyder officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Dubs Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 8 PM.
