Claire L. Rankin

Claire L. Rankin, 82, of Hanover, PA, entered God's eternal care, Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Atlee Hills Nursing and Rehab, Westminster, MD.

Born August 15, 1941, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Norman J. and Winifred C. (Schwarz) Lange.  Claire was the loving wife of Carroll S. Rankin, Jr., with whom she shared sixty years of marriage.

Claire graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School and Notre Dame College, both in Baltimore, MD, and received a master’s degree from McDaniel College.  Claire worked for Social Security Administration for twenty-six years as a computer systems analyst until her retirement.

Claire was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, York, PA.  A piano player and singer since childhood, Claire  enjoyed singing in church choirs and glee clubs.  Claire enjoyed volunteering with Meals-on-Wheels, which she did for decades. Claire was outgoing and engaging. She was a world traveler and had a special enthusiasm for New York City which she visited anytime the opportunity arose.

In addition to her loving husband, Carroll, Claire is survived by three children, Teresa N. Schoenhaar and husband Steven of Frankford, DE, Timothy P. Rankin and wife Pamela of Clermont, FL, and Kathleen M. Murphy and husband Sean of Haymarket, VA; nine grandchildren, Matt, Kelly, Simon, Sam, Adam, Ben, Dylan, Caitlyn, and Aidan; and two brothers, Jay Lange, and Jack Lange and wife Mollie.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jean Kirk.

A service to celebrate and remember Claire will be held 11AM, Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10-11AM, Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the funeral home.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville, MD.
