Daniel Rafferty Obituary

Daniel I. Rafferty, 89, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s Eternal Care, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Center.

Born February 21, 1932, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Charles B. and Elizabeth (Baier) Rafferty.  Daniel was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Richards) Rafferty with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

Dan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover, PA.  Before moving to Hanover, He was an active member of St. John Catholic Church, Westminster, MD for 46 years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was involved with the St Vincent DePaul Society where he volunteered at the soup kitchen for 25 years.

Dan a 1950 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph High School, Baltimore, MD.  He served his country proudly as a veteran of the United States Marines.

Dan retired in 1997 after 43 years in the plastering/drywall field.

Dan loved his family. He enjoyed attending all his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, he didn’t miss many.  He enjoyed golfing, doing handyman projects, and was always willing to lend a hand when anyone needed help.  Mostly, he enjoyed telling the same jokes over and over.                                                    

In addition to his loving wife Pat, Dan is survived by his children, Mike Rafferty and wife Brenda of Swanton, MD, Steve Rafferty and wife Monica of Lewes, DE, and Kathy Kelly and husband Mike of Lewes, DE; his grandchildren, Jessica Bush and husband Morgan; Ryan Kelly, Nick Kelly and fiancé Mickaela, Morgan Spink and husband Justin, Tyler Rafferty, Mckenzy Welch and husband Jeremy, Megan Kelly; and his great grandchildren, Dawson, Tripp and Riley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM, Monday, January 31, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant.

A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10 – 11 AM, Monday, January 31, 2022 at the church.  Burial will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills, MD at the convenience of the family. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dan’s memory to Homewood at Plum Creek Site Fund, 425 Westminster Ave, Hanover, PA  17331 or the St Vincent DePaul Society, St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St, Westminster, MD 21157
