Darlene Ackerman Obituary

Darlene L. Ackerman, 69, of Spring Grove, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, in Harrisburg, PA after a second courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 30, 1951 in Hanover, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles Eugene Strausbaugh and Joyce Louise (Behl) Snyder.

She attended Delone Catholic High School.

Darlene was employed as a sales associate in the fabric and crafts department at Walmart. She had a career with Walmart which lasted over 19 years. Darlene was a dedicated and hard-working employee. She loved her job, and they were considered to be her “Walmart Family”.

Darlene was a member of the Hanover Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2506 Auxiliary, Women of the Moose - Loyal Order of the Moose, of both the Hanover Lodge #227 and McSherrystown Lodge #720, and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1406 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to dance. With her memberships, she gathered with all of her friends and danced as often as she could. Darlene’s love for dancing also came with her love for Dean Crawford and the Dunn’s River Band. She loved him and was his “biggest fan”. She and her friends would go to see Dean & his band play as often as she could. She even had an autographed hat by Dean, and it was one of her most prized possessions.

Darlene was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Darlene loved playing Bingo, dancing, and was a great cook and baker. Family meant everything to her. She loved having large gatherings, where she would cook and bake for all of her loved ones. Those that knew her will always have a special place in their hearts for her.

Darlene is survived by her children, Angela M. Kohler and husband Stephen Sr., of Spring Grove, PA, John W. Amig Jr. and wife Angelique, of York, PA, and Bobby Lee Amig, of Spring Grove, PA. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Edward H. Snyder VI and Stephen L. Kohler Jr., both of Spring Grove, PA, Aislinn M. King and lifelong partner Dan Johnson, of York, PA, Hannah L. Amig, of York, PA, four great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Victoria, Aiden, and Lillian. She is survived by two siblings; Linda D. Topper and husband Jon, of York, PA, and Beverly A.
