David L. Sands, 65, of Taneytown, MD, entered God’s eternal care on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born April 29, 1956, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Mary A. (Creager) Sands and the late Thomas H. Sands.
David was a 1974 graduate of Brownsburg High School, Brownsburg, IN, and attended Purdue University, Indiana State University, and the Indiana University School of Music until his enlistment in the United States Navy, serving his country proudly, playing the trumpet in the Navy Band during his enlistment. He played with the “Orient Express” while overseas and serving in Japan. David traveled to many countries, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan.
David dealt with mental illness after his enlistment, he helped his mother for many years, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving mother, David is survived by his brother, Thomas W. Sands and wife Martha of Fishers, IN, and his sister, Cynthia S. Ogden of Taneytown, MD; two nephews, William Ogden of Hyattsville, MD and Kenneth Ogden of Irvine, CA; two uncles, Richard Creager and companion Sue Andrew of Taneytown, MD, and Donald Creager and wife Nancy of Thurmont, MD; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service to celebrate and remember David will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with his cousin, the Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Dubs Church Cemetery, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover, PA, with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail. Viewings and times to share memories with the family will be held from 2:00-4:00PM and from 7:00-9:00PM, Friday, October 1, 2021, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603, or to a charity of your choice.
