Dean H. Markle, 90, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Friday, April 16, 2021 at Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Home with his loving family by his side.
Born June 13, 1930, in Manheim Township, Hanover, PA, in a time where if something was broken, you fixed it…rather than throw it away. He was the son of the late Raymond E., Sr. & Jennie R. (Shue) Markle. Dean was the loving husband of the late Hilda C. (Brumgard) Markle who died April 3, 2002 and with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. He is also survived by his dear loving friend Louise Rohrbaugh.
Dean was a member of Gettysburg Baptist Church, Gettysburg, PA. Previously, he belonged to St. Bartholomew’s United Church, ELCA where he was a former council president, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and choir member. He was a member of Gideons International and the local Grange. While at Homewood at Plum Creek, he was very active and often led Daily Devotions.
Dean was a supervisor and master carpenter for C. W. Test, retiring with over 40 years of service, and having worked on many commercial buildings and homes throughout York and Adams County, PA. Dean insisted on doing things right and had the much sought-after ability to “fix anything”.
The family is especially proud of the fact that Dean built his own residence, which served as a loving home for he and his family for over 50 years. Dean’s family legacy continues in this home, as his grandson Joel and wife Katie, raise their family in the same loving traditions Dean exhibited.
Dean had great joy in having the chance to work side by side with his son Harlan, as they built Harlan and Gloria’s beautiful home.
Dean lived his life simply, by putting his family and his faith first in his life. He was an avid farmer and gardener all his life. He loved speaking Pennsylvania Dutch.
Dean is survived by three children, Harlan E. Markle and wife Gloria, Jane L. Schnitzer and husband John, and Susan A. Krentler and husband Jeffrey, all of Hanover, PA; four grandchildren, Joel D. Krentler and wife Katie, Jennifer Wheeler and husband Bryan; Michael Clouser and wife Kelly, and Kimberly Wilson and husband Ben; eleven great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert E. Markle and wife Kathy of Glenville, PA, and a sister-in-law- Shirley Brumgard of Jacobus, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Raymond E. Markle, Jr. and Janet Cool; and one nephew, Jason Markle.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Dean will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with the Rev. Bill Mummert officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA. Viewings and times to share memories with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, April 20, 2021, and from 10:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the funeral home.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Joel Krentler, Bryan Wheeler, Michael Clouser, Larry Brumgard, Ben Wilson, Gerry Mummert, and Brody Goulden, and Honorary Pallbearers, Owen Wheeler and Connor Clouser.
