Dolores E. Svec

Dolores Elizabeth (Mathews) Svec, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away May 18, 2022, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the loving wife of Charles H. Svec, her high school sweetheart. Together, they shared 58 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter Kristen Wolf, husband Steve and daughter Kyra; a son David, wife Becca and son Max; and daughter Jennifer Meyrowitz, husband Barry and daughters Peyton and Yoandra. 

Dolores is survived by a sister Mary Diane, brothers Ronnie, Pat and Terry and loving nieces. She was preceded in death by brothers Rolfe and Gary and sister Judy.

Dolores was born on January 9, 1943, in Baltimore. She was the daughter of Dolores (Bahr) and Rolfe Mathews. She graduated from Catonsville High School in 1960 and went to work for Household Finance Corporation. Dolores was a devoted stay at home mother for several years, and after her children started school, she worked at Furs By Susan for 22 years.

Dolores volunteered for the Hanover Hospital Auxiliary and the Hanover Literacy Program, and she supported many charities, both local and worldwide.

Dolores enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her Ocean Pines beach home, and loved reading magazines and playing with her grandchildren on any beach. She loved to cook and entertain, hosting many memorable gatherings with Charlie. She enjoyed gardening at home and traveling the world, taking trips with her family and her friends. Dolores also accompanied Charlie on many domestic and international business trips where she developed many lasting friendships.

Dolores loved being with her family, and was adored by her children and grandchildren, who always loved being around her. She was a loyal friend, known for both her kind heart and her sharp wit. She was loved by all who knew her, and known for her beautiful smile and bright blue eyes that sparkled when she smiled. She will be sadly missed and will live on in the hearts of family and friends.

A celebration of Dolores’ life will be held at the Cross Keys Village Nicarry Meetinghouse the morning of September 17, 2022. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Dolores can be made to Cross Keys Village, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350 or www.crosskeysvillage.org/donate , or any charity of your choice.
