Doris M. Smeak

Doris Mae Smeak, 95, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at SpiriTrust Lutheran the Village at Utz Terrace with her loving family by her side.

Born May 17, 1929, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late William C. Sr. and Relda L. (Flemmens) Garman.  Doris was the loving wife of Cletus L. Smeak with whom she celebrated 75 years of marriage until his passing on February 18, 2025.

Doris was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, where she taught Pre-K Sunday School, served on the Altar committee, was a greeter for services, and was a volunteer coordinator for church Lenten and bereavement luncheons.  Doris was a  member of the Hanover Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and also served as a den mother for Pack #102 with the Boy Scouts, volunteering alongside her husband, Cletus, for many years.   She enjoyed gardening and had a real love for flowers and plants.

Doris retired from Sheets Truck Center after 21 years of service as an assistant supervisor in the parts department.

Doris is survived by her three children, Dolan C. Smeak and wife Catherine of Frederick, MD, Brian C. Smeak and wife Teresa of Odessa, FL, and Holly M. Sorice and husband Tony of Hanover, PA; five grandchildren, Corrine C. Ybarra, Joseph A. Sorice, Tara E. Smeak, Jennifer M. Shupe, and Janis R. Sorice; and five great grandchildren, Natalie, Lucas, Brayden, Sloan and Banks, and one sister, Wanda Lupp.  She was preceded in death by one brother, William C. Garman, Jr, and one sister, Jean L. Strausbaugh. 

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Doris’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 9:30AM-11:00AM, Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the church.
