Emma Veronica Krichten, 65, of Gettysburg, PA, entered into God's eternal care Thursday, January 18, 2024, at home surrounded by loving family.
Born January 30, 1958, in Gettysburg, PA, she was daughter to the late Clair E. and Pauline E. (Moore) Shermeyer. Emma was the loving wife of Edward Joseph Krichten, Jr., with whom she shared over 46 years of marriage.
Emma graduated from Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, PA, in the class of 1975.
Following high school, Emma attended Nursing School in Hanover and earned her LPN license. Emma worked for Gettysburg Hospital for over 46 years, until her retirement in January of 2023. She had worked on the floor for many years, and then later worked in case management.
Emma was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Gettysburg, PA.
In her free time, Emma enjoyed being involved in activities at her church parish. She was an active member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women and enjoyed attending women’s retreats. Emma also enjoyed spending her time going camping, reading, going to the beach, playing BINGO, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her loving husband Ed, Emma is survived by her children, Holly K. Krichten of Littlestown, PA, Jason E. Krichten and wife Tricia of Palm Bay, FL, Jacob M. Krichten and wife Keri of New Oxford, PA, and Joshua A. Krichten and wife Christine of Gettysburg, PA, and seven grandchildren, Braden Sanchez, Delaney Sanchez, Delilah Krichten, Axel Krichten, Maggie Krichten, Ranger Krichten, and Reagan Krichten. Emma is also survived by 8 siblings, Norma J. Woerner, Evelyn S. Heiliger, Mary C. Arvin, Richard E. Shermeyer, James L. Shermeyer, Michael L. Shermeyer, Anthony J. Shermeyer, and Mark A. Shermeyer. She was preceded in death by one brother, Brian D. Shermeyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate and remember Emma’s life will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 26, 2024, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 12 East Hanover Street, Gettysburg, PA, 17325, with Father Benny Jose officiating. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be from 10-11 AM, Friday, January 26, 2024, also at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Emma’s memory may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Parish.
