Eugene M. Laughman, 78, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, March 7, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 12, 1946, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Robert T. and Dorothy A. (Mummert) Laughman. Eugene was the loving husband of Colleen J. (Hall) Laughman, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.

Eugene attended Eichelberger Senior High School in Hanover, PA and then entered the United States Navy, where he served for over 20 years. While in the Navy, Eugene worked as a police officer for the Machias Maine Police Department, and as a sheriff for the Washington County Maine Sheriff’s Department. Eugene retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal 5 times, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Ribbon, and Meritorious Unit Citation, and served on the U.S.S. Essex CV9, U.S.S. Independence CV62, U.S.S. Nashville LPD 13, and U.S.S. Virginia CGN38 as well as various shore duties.

Upon returning to Hanover, he worked for Hanover Candy and Tobacco, then at Cintas, and lastly as a van driver for Krise Transportation. In his free time, Eugene enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and started most days with the “Coffee Crew” at The Famous Hot Weiner and North 5th Street Diner.

Eugene was a member of Hanover Community Church, the Hanover Fraternal Order of the Eagles, where he was a past president, Spring Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hanover AMVETS Post 22, and a former member of the Hanover Moose, and Hanover Republican Club.

In addition to his loving wife Colleen, Eugene is survived by his daughters, Catina Brodbeck and Nicole Myers, both of Hanover, PA; three grandchildren, Kelsea Brodbeck, Tanner Myers, and Emily Myers; and siblings, Beatrice I. Auchey of Hanover, PA, Mark L. Laughman of New Oxford, PA, and Robert J. Laughman and companion Gladys Glatfelter of Hanover, PA.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Eugene’s life will be held 10 AM, Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Hanover Community Church, 1959 Smith Station Road, Hanover, PA, with his Pastor, Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA with the Hanover Allied Veterans Burial Detail providing Military Honors. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Eugene’s memory to the Central PA York chapter of Make-a-Wish at 3572 Concord Rd, York, PA 17402.
