Eugene H. Saltzgiver

Eugene H. Saltzgiver, 89 of East Berlin, PA,  entered into God’s eternal care, Monday, August 21, 2023, at UPMC York Memorial Hospital.

Born July 11, 1934, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Ruth (Weaver) Saltzgiver.  Eugene was the loving husband of Jeanne M. (Baumgardner) Saltzgiver with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.

Eugene was a member of St. Paul’s Dubs Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA where he was a former council member, a member of the Shur Shot Gun Club, Cross Forks, PA, for over 50 years, and was a former volunteer firefighter for Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Company.

Eugene enjoyed hunting, playing 500, watching his Philadelphia Eagles, and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events.   He loved his dogs, and his neighbor’s pets as well.

In addition to his wife Jeanne, Eugene is survived by two sons, Gary Saltzgiver and wife Jane, Michael Saltzgiver and wife Karen, 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Sherdel and husband John, Hollie Armstrong and husband Steve, Patrick Saltzgiver and wife Ashley, Eugene Williams, and Joyce Williams, 10 great grandchildren, Joshua Sherdel, Jacob Sherdel, Jillian Sherdel, Luke Selby, Zoe Jones, Oliver Williams, Adele Williams, Joel Magcalas, and Saylor & Seanna Saltzgiver.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Sponseller, Doris Lawrence, and Rodger Saltzgiver.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Eugene’s life will be held 11:00AM, Friday, August 25, 2023, at St. Paul’s Dubs Lutheran Church, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover, PA, with his Pastor, the Rev. Susan Fritz officiating.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Dubs Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Friday, August 25, 2023, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eugene’s name to the St. Paul’s Dubs Church Cemetery Fund, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
