Frederick E. Kauffman, 93, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, November 21, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born September 10, 1932, he was the son of the late Myrtle (Forry) Kauffman. Fred was the loving husband of the late Louise E. (Bowling) Kauffman with whom he shared 60 years of marriage until her passing on August 31, 2024.
Fred was a graduate of Eichelberger High School. He worked as a musical instrument repairman, specializing in brass instruments, for Menchey Music. Thanks to his 30 years of employment at Menchey, he was able to share his unique skills on more than just instruments. Fred created many unique pieces of brass throughout their home to include chandeliers, coffee pots, and lamps.
Fred was involved in the Hanover Elks lodge, the Lyric Band, and the Hanover Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps. He loved playing the trumpet, listening and dancing to big band music, watching Phillies baseball, Philadelphia 76ers basketball, and Washington Redskins football, eating traditional Pennsylvania Dutch cooking with a side of Schwan’s mint bars for dessert, doing word finds, playing mixed doubles tennis with Louise, catching rays by the lake, and telling an occasional one-liner joke.
Fred was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Hanover.
Fred is survived by his two children: Chad E. Kauffman and his partner Hiroko Koike of Washington, DC, and Heather L. Kauffman, of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Smith, and an infant daughter, Sonja Kauffman.
