Gail W. Kemp passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Homewood Living at Plum Creek at the young age of 97.
Gail was born in Snydersburg, MD on April 18, 1928 to John W.M. and Rio S. Williams. She was predeceased by her parents, son-in-law, Jack Reedy and by husband, Oden A. Kemp, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage.
Our Mom/Mimi was a gentle, sweet, wonderful person, always with a big smile. It was hard to get a “damn” out of her. She will be a hard act to follow/always there to listen and to advise if asked, she will be so missed by daughters Maureen Hasson (Barry) and Laurie Weaver (Fred-former) of Hanover and granddaughters Holly Myers Warner (Shane Warner) of Hanover and Heidi Fowler (Todd) of Arendtsville and grandson, Alex Heson (Annie) of Westminster. She is also survived by a sister, Molly Beck of VA, along with many nieces and nephews.
She wore many hats and had various jobs, but her favorite was the time she spent volunteering at the front desk at Carroll County Hospital. She happily volunteered there for 25 years. She loved to read, garden, golf, canoe and travel. She really did not love to cook, but boy was she good at it (mmmm cookies).
She spent her young years in Snydersburg at Cascade Lake and then in Taneytown at the Otterdale Mill before moving to Hampstead where she and Oden lived until their move to Homewood in 2006.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There are simply not enough thank you’s for the care and companionship that was given by the wonderful staff at Homewood. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you did for our Mom!
Thank you also to the VNA staff and their kind attention and caring.
