Gary E. Smith

Gary E. Smith, 70, of Abbottstown, PA, entered God’s eternal care Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Pappus House, Thomasville, PA, with his loving family by his side.

Born August 25, 1955, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene M. Smith and Shirley M. (Leese) Smith Weaver.  Gary was the loving husband of Sheron L. (Bare) Smith with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. 

Gary was a 1973 graduate of Hanover High School.  He was a forklift operator with Keurig/Dr. Pepper for ten years.  Gary was a member of the New Oxford Social Club. 

In addition to his loving wife, Sheron, Gary is survived by his children, Julie Griffin and husband Kelly of Abbottstown, PA, David Arndt and wife Crystal of Littlestown, PA, Jody Miller and husband Ty of Spring Grove, PA, Carrie Wagaman and husband James of New Oxford, PA, and Heidi Arndt and companion Brian of Hanover, PA; 5 grandchildren, Brittney, Brook, Brady, Alexis, and Carter; and 1 great-grandchild, Sawyer.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Smith.     

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held 11AM, Friday, August 7, 2026, at Marburg Memorial Gardens, 2510 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s name to the Pappus House, 66 Big Mount Road, Thomasville, PA 17364.
