George E. Swartz, 76, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Monday, August 8, 2022, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born July 12, 1946, in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Dorothy (Miller) Swartz.
George was a 1964 graduate of South Western Senior High School and received a doctorate in philosophy and business administration from James Madison University in 2006.
George was a veteran and served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War; he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Qualification Badge.
George worked as a technician for Wrights Radio for several years before starting his own business, Swartz Communications which he owned and operated for 25 years. Upon retiring, he drove motor coaches, trained, and was an operations manager for Lincoln Bus Lines; worked as an administrator for the Loyal Order of the Moose #227; was a school bus driver, trainer, and assistant manager for Boyo Transportation; and school bus driver, trainer, and assistant manager for Krise Transportation, Inc.
George was a past president and served on multiple committees on the Pennsylvania School Board Association for 10 years; was a past president and volunteered for the Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 for 12 years; and was a past president and served on the Littlestown School Board for 21 years. He was a member of the Hanover Moose Lodge #227, earned the Pilgrim Degree, and was a member of their 25 Club, a Fellow, and past Honorary Governor; and was a member of the FOE#1406 and the Hanover Home Association.
George enjoyed riding motorcycles, being on his boat, traveling and going to casinos, playing darts, hunting and fishing, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.
George is survived by his previous wives, Tammy Swartz of Hanover, PA, and Karen Swartz of Sun City, AZ; his daughters, Deci Swartz of Denton, MD, Debbie Sheffler and husband Herb of Littlestown, PA, Kayla Ohl and husband Matt of Hanover, PA, and Diana Gilbert and husband Bill of Hanover, PA; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betsy Wright.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at New Hope Faith Community Church, 33 Sunday Drive, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Matt DeCampo officiating. Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail affording Military Honors. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 4:00-8:00PM, Friday, August 19, 2022, and from 10:00-11:00AM, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the church.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Jonathan Stoltzfus, Randy Reichert, Ed Hurley, Rob Miller, Steve Werner, Herb Sheffler, Brayden Boarts, and Carson Boarts.
